How It All Started

Passionate mentors Sami Obaid (left) and Joe Balint (center) from GE Medical Systems (now GE Healthcare) endeavored to get involved in FIRST Robotics Competition.  They wished to start a new team close enough to their Pewaukee campus that other GE associates would be able to mentor and participate.  GE associate Chris Paulik suggested his alma mater and connected with science teacher John Budish (right) to initiate the program at Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wisconsin.

After recruitment and logistics meetings in September of 2000 proved successful, the group initiated registration and was founded on November 20th, 2000 as FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) Team #537.

Originally named "Domo A.R.I.G.A.T.O." (Applied Robotics, Integrated Gameplay, And Teamwork Opportunity), Team #537 changed its name to "Charger Robotics" on October 23rd, 2003 to better align its branding to other Sussex Hamilton organizations.

Over the years, Charger Robotics has expanded to include FIRST® Lego® League (FLL®) teams, FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) teams, and has impacted over 600 students and 115 mentors who have been involved in the program.

These teams participate in educational and exciting robotics programs and design challenges provided by FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

Always Charging Forward

Since the very beginning, Charger Robotics has reached beyond our immediate team to help start and amplify other FIRST and STEM programs around us.
